Members of the Erikson Institute community gather for Zero to Three Annual Conference

The conference in New Orleans featured several presentations by Erikson faculty and doctoral students, and an offsite gathering brought together alumni from across the country, plus faculty, staff, and students.

For three days in New Orleans, early childhood professionals and thought leaders shared research, knowledge, and experiences as part of Zero to Three’s Annual Conference, and numerous Erikson Institute faculty, staff, students, and alumni attended to present their own work, learn from others, and network.

In conjunction with the conference, a group of 25 Erikson community members, including 12 alumni, also gathered offsite to socialize and talk about their experiences as professionals working across the country.

The conference included presentations by Erikson faculty members and doctoral students:

  • Jie-Qi Chen, Ph.D., senior vice president for Academic Affairs, dean of faculty, and founder of Erikson’s Early Math Collaborative, was part of a session on how science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills develop in infants and toddlers.
  • Professor Linda Gilkerson, Ph.D., executive director of Erikson’s Fussy Baby Network®, and doctoral student Sabrina Mendez presented a poster titled Trauma-Informed Early Intervention: Listening to the Needs of Practitioners and Managers.
  • Gilkerson also presented at a session for healthcare providers and was part of a session on Fussy Baby’s unique approach to working with families, the Facilitating Attuned Interactions (FAN) model.
  • Professor Jon Korfmacher, Ph.D., was a member of a panel that examined how to meet mental health needs — particularly for infants — in home visiting programs.
  • Professor Nucha Isarowong, Ph.D., LCSW, was part of a discussion on organizational assessment for readiness to implement the diversity-informed infant mental health tenets.
  • Doctoral student Kandace Thomas was part of a forum that looked at developmental issues in infant boys from neurobiological, behavioral, and cultural perspectives.

In addition, Andria Goss, M.S. ’02, director of Erikson’s Early Childhood Project with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, was introduced as one of 15 incoming Zero to Three fellows, a group that includes professionals from across the country working in different roles and settings to improve the lives of children and families.
